Congratulations for choosing Helsinki as the city to study, party and have a great time for the next half a year! We, your tutors Terhi and Tiina, promise that you won’t regret this. There will be so many things to see and live that the time will pass by SO quickly that you hardly notice that you even got here :-). That’s why you need to be well prepared:
First thing you need to do right away is to inform us when and how you’ll arrive here, so we can pick you up and give you a ride to your new apartment. We can help you to settle down and make your life a bit easier here. You can as well consult us in any issues concerning your studies, living here, partying, traveling, sports, you name it.
Second thing is to be prepared for all the events and trips our Student Union and we are going to organize for you. There will be cottage weekends, trips to Stockholm and St. Petersburg and several other party’s here in Helsinki. (NOTE to people coming from EU-countries: please bring your passport with you to be able to join the fantastic trip to St. Petersburg!) To get more information on our Student Union and practical issues here, please read the welcoming packages from the HSE International Affairs Office and Student Union’s International Affairs through carefully.
Third thing is to be prepared for the climate of Helsinki. The fall can sometimes be cold and rainy and the days can be quite short. The darkest time here is in November and December. In September it is sometimes still quite warm (meaning 5-20 degrees plus) but it will get colder… In November and December the temperature is usually between few degrees plus to -20 degrees. Usually we get snow in November or December, but sometimes later. It might be a good idea to travel a bit around in Finland to see the real winter.
And one more thing: Remember to bring the materials you’ve received from the HSE and the Student Union. At least you should have the letter of acceptance to verify your student status here, which in turn entitles you to a cheaper bus travel card.
And the most important thing: feel free to contact us, your tutors, the HSE or the Secretary of the International Affairs Niina Niemi, in any issues. See you in a couple of weeks!

Za ztucnenim nic nehledejte, to me jen tak napadlo (po tech x-letech studia ma clovek podtrhavaci fetis).

- zaprve jsem si rezervoval letenku (ano, je to pozde, vim, ale penize jsou vzdy az na prvnim miste), mel bych letet se Swiss(air)em pres Curych, cemuz jsem rad, protoze Kodan uz trosku znam (pres ni bych do Helsinek letel s KLM). A kdyz uz jsme u letist...
- zadruhe mi prisel mailik od mych tutorek/buddynek (i kdyz za zensky rod nerucim) o tom, jak uz na me cekaji (jeste nevedi, ze priletim skoro o pulnoci), takze dale vybiram z toho, co povazovali/y za hodne sdeleni

.. mi to pripada jako "sablona", i kdyz ta jmena Tvych buddinek vypadaji celkem zajimave :-)
No to vis, ze je to sablona, taky to tak deame :-). Ale o to nejde, dulezity je pak human touch na miste.
pokud pod human touch chapes document.addSignature(connection,"SELECT name, surname FROM sexyfinnishnames WHERE gender='female'"); ... ;-)
nicmene doufam, ze nas obstastnis detailni fotodokumentaci :-)
Te notaci rozumim jen zcasti, nicmene nemuzu se tak jako tak zbavit dojmu, ze "jste zvrhly, vojaku!" :-).
